Encouraging Knowledge Sharing using Web 2.0 Technologies in Higher Education: A Survey

Shuaibu Hassan Usman1 and Ishaq Oyebisi Oyefolahan2 1Department of Management and Information Technology, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria 2Department of Information System, International Islamic University Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia  ABSTRACT  As the technology continuous to advance, new technologies have emerged with the capability to revolutionize knowledge sharing practices. Web 2.0 exemplifies such new technologies, which provides dynamic way of interactions of people and businesses. In learning environment, Web 2.0 technologies support and enhance teaching and learning of students. Therefore, the main aim of this study focuses on the determining the ways to encourage knowledge sharing through web 2.0 technologies from students’ point of views. A total of 287 students responded to the online questionnaire in International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Descriptive statistics was used in data analysis. The results show that students ...

Drivers of E-Business Value Creation in Banking Sector in Jordan: A Structural Equation Modeling Application

Ali Ahmad Alawneh1 and Mohammed Bani Younis2 1Department of Management Information Systems, Faculty of Information Technology Philadelphia University, Amman, Jordan 2Department of Computer Engineering, Philadelphia University, Amman, Jordan  ABSTRACT:  With the development and growth of internet, its applications of e-banking, e-commerce, and e-business became irreplaceable channels regarding its fast access, rich content, and smooth interactivity. High investments are paid toward improving the quality of service offered by the banks. This paper is dedicated to empirically investigating the drivers of e-Business value creation in the Jordanian banking sector. This work summarizes the main differences among employees of Jordanian and foreign bank regarding their perspectives. Many of the competing foreign banks to the Jordanian banks are enforced with huge financial capital, having long periods of banking practices and are employing cutting-edge technologies and tool...

Towards A Trusted E-Election in Kuwait : Requirements and Principles

Asaad Alzayed1 , Ray Dawson2 and Abdulaziz Alkandari3 1 Public Authority of Applied Education, Business College, Information Systems Department, Kuwait 2 Department of Computer Science, Loughborough University, Loughborough LE113TU,United Kingdom 3 Public Authority of Applied Education, Business College, Information Systems Department,Kuwait Abstract  Kuwait is a democratic country that has used paper ballots for its parliament elections for many years. Although many people are content with the paper ballot, a survey shows that it has drawbacks, which have made some people lose confidence in the system and would prefer a replacement electronic system. However, the survey also shows that voters are cautious about electronic voting and are not ready for a full internet-enabled system. The aim of this paper is to propose a step-by-step approach for introducing electronic voting system and to define a set of requirements that an e-voting system, which is planned to be used inst...

Extended PSO Algorithm for Improvement Problems K-Means Clustering Algorithm

Maryam Lashkari1 and Amin Rostami2 1Department of Computer Engineering, Ferdows Branch, Islamic Azad University, Ferdows, Iran. 2Department of Computer Engineering, Ferdows Branch, Islamic Azad University, Ferdows, Iran.  ABSTRACT  The clustering is a without monitoring process and one of the most common data mining techniques. The purpose of clustering is grouping similar data together in a group, so were most similar to each other in a cluster and the difference with most other instances in the cluster are. In this paper we focus on clustering partition k-means, due to ease of implementation and high-speed performance of large data sets, After 30 year it is still very popular among the developed clustering algorithm and then for improvement problem of placing of k-means algorithm in local optimal, we pose extended PSO algorithm, that its name is ECPSO. Our new algorithm is able to be cause of exit from local optimal and with high percent produce the problem’s optima...

Barriers to Government Cloud Adoption

Samuel Tweneboah-Koduah1 ,Dr. Barbara Endicott-Popovsky2 and Anthony Tsetse3 1 iSchool, University of Washington, 4311 11th Ave. NE, Seattle, Washington 98105 2 iSchool, University of Washington, 4311 11th Ave. NE, Seattle, Washington 98105 3 State University of New York, Fredonia, USA, 280 Central Ave, Fredonia, NY 14063  ABSTRACT  Besides the benefits are there possible challenges government agencies are likely to encounter should they decide to adopt cloud computing? What strategies should be deployed to overcome the inhibitors of cloud computing? These are but few questions this paper aims to investigate. Studies have shown that, cloud computing has become a strategic direction for many government agencies and is already being deployed in many critical areas of the government's cyber infrastructure. The benefits and the challenges of cloud adoption have heightened interest of academic research in recent times. We are however uncertain, per literature factors tha...

Wireless Sensor Network Clustering Using Particles Swarm Optimization For Reducing Energy Consumption

Amin Rostami1 and Mohammad Hossin Mottar2 1Department of Computer Engineering, Ferdows Branch, Islamic Azad University, Ferdows , Iran. 2Department of Computer Engineering, Mashhad Branch, Islamic Azad  ABSTRACT  Wireless sensor networks (WSN) is composed of a large number of small nodes with limited functionality. The most important issue in this type of networks is energy constraints. In this area several researches have been done from which clustering is one of the most effective solutions. The goal of clustering is to divide network into sections each of which has a cluster head (CH). The task of cluster heads collection, data aggregation and transmission to the base station is undertaken. In this paper, we introduce a new approach for clustering sensor networks based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm using the optimal fitness function, which aims to extend network lifetime. The parameters used in this algorithm are residual energy density, the dista...

Framework Architecture for Improving Healthcare Information Systems using Agent Technology

Hasan Omar Al-Sakran Management Information Systems Department, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia ABSTRACT Due to diversity, heterogeneity and complexity of the existing healthcare structure, providing suitable healthcare services is a complicated process. This work describes the conceptual design of an e-healthcare system, which implements integration strategies and suitable technologies that will handle the interoperability problem among its essential components. The proposed solution combines intelligent agent technology and case based reasoning for highly distributed applications in healthcare environment. Intelligent agents play a critical role in providing correct information for diagnostic, treatment, etc. They work on behalf of human agents taking care of routine tasks, thus increasing speed and reliability of the information exchanges. CBR is used to generate advices to a certain e-healthcare problems by analyzing solutions given to previously solved proble...
