MULTI-HOP BANDWIDTH MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL FOR MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS

MULTI-HOP BANDWIDTH MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL FOR MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS  Binod Kumar Pattanayak, Manoj Kumar Mishra, Alok Kumar Jagadev, Manojranjan Nayak Siksha O Anusandhan University, Jagamohan Nagar, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar Orissa, India,  ABSTRACT  An admission control scheme should play the role of a coordinator for flows in a data communication network, to provide the guarantees as the medium is shared. The nodes of a wired network can monitor the medium to know the available bandwidth at any point of time. But, in wireless ad hoc networks, a node must consume the bandwidth of neighboring nodes, during a communication. Hence, the consumption of bandwidth by a flow and the availability of resources to any wireless node strictly depend upon the neighboring nodes within its transmission range. We present a scalable and efficient admission control scheme, Multi-hop Bandwidth Management Protocol (MBMP), to support the QoS requirements in multi-hop ad hoc networ...

COMMUNITY DETECTION IN THE COLLABORATIVE WEB

COMMUNITY DETECTION IN THE COLLABORATIVE WEB  Lylia Abrouk, David Gross-Amblard and Nadine Cullot LE2I, UMR CNRS 5158 University of Burgundy, Dijon, France  lylia.abrouk@u-bourgogne.fr, david.gross-amblard@u-bourgogne.fr, nadine.cullot@u-bourgogne.fr  ABSTRACT  Most of the existing social network systems require from their users an explicit statement of their friendship relations. In this paper we focus on implicit Web communities and present an approach to automatically detect them, based on user’s resource manipulations. This approach is dynamic as user groups appear and evolve along with users interests over time. Moreover, new resources are dynamically labelled according to who is manipulating them. Our proposal relies on the fuzzy K-means clustering method and is assessed on large movie datasets.  KEYWORDS  Clustering, Data sharing, Information networks, user distance, Web community.  Original Source URL :  http:/...

UPPING THE ANTE: USING RFID AS A COMPETITIVE WEAPON TO FIGHT SHOPLIFTING AND IMPROVE BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE  David C. Wyld1 and Michael C. Budden2  1Department of Management, Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA USA dwyld@selu.edu 2Department of Marketing & Supply Chain Management, Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, LA USA mbudden@selu.edu    ABSTRACT  This paper explores how RFID (radio frequency identification) technology can be employed to fight the ever-growing shoplifting problem, estimated to cost the world’s retailers almost $100 billion annually. The paper provides an overview of RFID technology. We then analyze how RFID is beginning to see utilization in-store not just for security, but as a vehicle to improve inventory management and business intelligence as well. This paper demonstrates that RFID is poised to usher in a whole new direction in the fight against retail shrinkage, and we discuss what this visibilit...
